Amwell Lodge No. 6459 met on Wednesday 20th May for a memorable Regular Meeting combining excellent ceremony with an inspiring display of Masonic generosity.
The Lodge welcomed 38 Brethren, including ten visitors whose presence added greatly to the occasion. Among those present were two Assistant Provincial Grand Masters and three further Grand Officers, all of whom received a warm Amwell welcome.
The principal business of the evening was the double Passing of Bro. Brian Robertson and Bro. Gareth Alston to the degree of Fellowcraft. The ceremony was conducted by the Worshipful Master, W. Bro. Wes Pierce, ably supported by the Lodge team. Bro. Shane McNamara presented and explained the Working Tools in exemplary fashion, before W. Bro. Alan West delivered an excellent explanation of the Second Degree Tracing Board.
It was another proud ceremonial performance from Amwell and an important step in the Masonic progression of our two Brethren.
The evening also demonstrated the close friendship between Amwell and our good friends and neighbours at Old Hertfordian Lodge No. 8083. It had been agreed that the evening’s raffle proceeds would support the purchase of a life-changing mobility chair for the daughter of one of their members, with £1,200 still needed to reach the target.
The raffle and a collection at the Festive Board raised a substantial sum. Then, before the evening was over, a number of Brethren quietly and anonymously came together to make up the difference. As a result, the full £1,200 was raised that very evening.
We may enjoy reminding our Old Hertfordian friends that Amwell is the Premier Lodge in Hertfordshire, but moments such as this show the strength of the friendship between our Lodges and the true meaning of Masonic support.
The Brethren later dined with their guests in perfect harmony, bringing to a close an evening of which everyone at Amwell Lodge can be immensely proud.
