An Amwell meeting we shall no forget….
On Wednesday 18th February, Amwell Lodge No. 6459 met at Mayflower Place, Hertingfordbury, for the Installation of Worshipful Brother Wes Pierce as Master for the ensuing year.
W.Bro Wes Pierce is well known across Hertfordshire for his work with the Provincial Mentoring Team, supporting Brethren throughout their Masonic journey. He also serves as our very own Events Secretary here at the Fleet House Light Blues Club, helping to create opportunities for newer members to engage with the wider Masonic community.
The meeting took place during a period of strong growth for Amwell Lodge, with nine Initiates and several Joining Members having joined over the past year. This was reflected in what is believed to be the largest attendance since the Lodge’s consecration, with 86 Brethren present, including around 40 guests of the new Master.
Visitors attended from a wide range of Lodges across Hertfordshire, including Hertford, Queen’s Oak, Hertfordshire Regiment, and Old Hertfordians, as well as The Herts Scots Lodge, Salisbury Union and the Lodge of True Aim. In addition, Brethren travelled from several other Provinces, including Hampshire and Isle of Wight, Metropolitan London, Surrey, Norfolk, and Essex.
The meeting also saw a significant number of distinguished Brethren in attendance, including all five Assistant Provincial Grand Masters of Hertfordshire, together with the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, Provincial Grand Mentor, and Provincial Grand Communications Officer.
A particularly memorable moment came with an unexpected knock at the Lodge door, when the Provincial Grand Master for Hertfordshire, Right Worshipful Brother Neil Connolly, demanded admission — a welcome surprise that added further distinction to the occasion.
The ceremony was conducted to a high standard, with the Installation carried out with confidence and care. A notable inclusion was the address to the Organist, delivered by the newly installed Master, a welcome addition to the proceedings.
During the meeting, the Lodge was also presented with its Grand Patron Certificate in recognition of its support for the Hertfordshire 2030 Festival.
The evening concluded with a well-attended Festive Board, reflecting the strong sense of fellowship on display throughout, and raising £1,235 for charity.
The meeting provided a clear example of the value of visiting within Freemasonry, with Brethren from across the Province and beyond coming together in support of the new Master and his Premier Lodge in Hertfordshire!
