A Night of Milestones and New Beginnings at Amwell Lodge No. 6459
A remarkable spirit of celebration filled the temple on Wednesday 3rd December as Amwell Lodge No. 6459 hosted a very special meeting — one that combined milestones, new beginnings, and heartfelt recognition of members old and new.

The evening commenced with the Third Degree raising of Bro. John McGrath, conducted with dignity and warmth by the Lodge team. This important step in Bro. McGrath’s Masonic journey was received with genuine appreciation by all present.
What followed was something exceptional even by Masonic standards — Amwell Lodge’s second quadruple initiation of the year. Bro. Atkins, Bro. Bann, Bro. Currie and Bro. Perone were welcomed into the Craft in a ceremony marked by sincerity and enthusiasm. For a Lodge to host two such initiations within a single year demonstrates its vitality and the growing strength of its membership. This latest ceremony brings the total to an impressive nine Initiates welcomed into Amwell Lodge during the current Masonic year, under the leadership of W. Bro. Jim Stuttley in the Chair.
The Lodge then turned to celebrating academic achievement within the Craft. Presenting four Solomon Diploma Certificates — awarded for the successful completion of the full suite of online learning modules — were presented to Bro. Ball, W. Bro Pierce, W. Bro Hardham and W. Bro Stuttley. Their dedication to Masonic study reflects a commendable commitment to understanding and living the principles of Freemasonry.
A distinguished moment followed with the presence of VW Bro Dick Knifton, Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, who addressed the Brethren with warmth and encouragement. He was pleased to present Festival Steward Jewels to three deserving recipients, Bro Nottage and Bro Alston Entered Apprentices and Bro McNamara a Fellowcraft
These presentations not only recognise individual generosity but also highlight the shared commitment of the Lodge to supporting the Festival appeal.
“Nights like these remind us why we gather,” one Brother reflected afterwards. “They show our Lodge at its best — learning together, growing together, and welcoming new members into our family.”
The absence of our much-loved Brother, W. Bro. Errol Uttridge, was keenly felt throughout the evening, and his presence and friendship were greatly missed.
The meeting concluded in an atmosphere of pride, unity and harmony. As Amwell Lodge reflects on an extraordinary year, this memorable evening stands as a shining example of fellowship, progress, and the enduring spirit of Hertfordshire Freemasonry.
